The Brussels Weightlifting School will have the honour of organising the Belgian Weightlifting Championships during the weekend of 29 and 30 November 2025 at the Albert Demuyter municipal sports centre.
This Olympic sport, which was little known 10 years ago, now attracts an increasingly large and diverse audience, won over by the elegance that results from the combination of speed, coordination and strength that the discipline forges.
Our country's elite, which includes no fewer than three Olympians this decade and has a strong presence at European level, will gather at the Ixelles municipal stadium to compete for the national title in ruthless competitions that are sometimes decided by a matter of kilograms.
Good to know: athletes have three attempts at the snatch and three attempts at the clean and jerk, movements that consist of bringing the loaded barbell above the head, with or without a pause on the shoulders. The best attempt at each movement will be added together to form the total.
Competitions are divided into categories based on body weight and gender. Contrary to popular belief, women are not left behind, as some 58kg athletes will lift no less than 100kg above their heads!
